Netflix is the world’s largest media service provider and production company, with over a user-base of 195 million active subscribers globally. However, Netflix wasn’t able to reach its targeted growth of 22 lakh new subscribers in its 3rd quarter. With India being the 2nd largest nation by population, the number of Netflix users here is considerably less compared to other countries (2M). As an attempt to lure in more subscribers, Netflix will soon start a two day event offering free streaming in India.
This 2 day free subscription, unlike the regular 1 month free trial, won’t be needing your bank account details. Users signing up for the free trial will require to enter their mail id or phone number. Although Netflix StreamFest is told to be completely free, it doesn’t come with unlimited access as noticed by the protocol. A string in the app says, ‘Netflix StreamFest is at a capacity,” meaning this trial may be limited to a group of people or everybody gets access to a limited amount of content. This StreamFest as of now will be held in India before giving access to customers across the globe.
Peter from Netflix said, “We think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have,” during one of the earnings calls. It is speculated that the StreamFest will start on the 4th December, or some weekend in December. We will update here with new articles on all further details.
